Here are my 10 Fall Porch Decor Ideas
1. Pumpkin-Themed Porch
- Pumpkin Arrangements: Incorporate different shapes, sizes, and colors of pumpkins (orange, white, green, etc.) in groups along steps or around your front door.Your pumpkins can be real or fake. I have glass ones I use every year.
- Stacked Pumpkin Topiaries: Create a pumpkin tower by stacking pumpkins of varying sizes on urns or planters.
- Carved and Painted Pumpkins: Mix classic jack-o’-lanterns with painted pumpkins in metallics or neutral tones for a stylish mix. See the photos below for some inspiration.
2. Harvest-Style Decor
- Cornstalk Bundles: Add height and texture to your porch by placing bundles of dried cornstalks on either side of the door.
- Hay Bales: Use hay bales as a foundation to place pumpkins, gourds, and seasonal flowers like mums.
- Wheat and Grasses: Incorporate dried wheat or ornamental grasses in baskets or planters for a natural, rustic vibe. I also love using pinecones for decorations. See the photos below for some inspiration.
3. Seasonal Wreaths
- Classic Autumn Wreaths: Use leaves, berries, and pinecones in traditional fall colors like orange, red, and gold.
- Modern Wreaths: Opt for minimalistic wreaths or door hangers with simple greenery, white pumpkins, or metallic accents. I have a neutral green wreath on my front door. To decorate for each season, I simply add my own decor. For Fall, I add yellow and orange artificial flowers and leaves. You can create your own Fall decor. See the door hangers below for some inspiration.
- DIY Wreath Ideas: Try to make your own fall wreaths using inexpensive supplies like twigs, faux leaves, and ribbons. See the photos below for some inspiration.
4. Warm Lighting
- Lanterns and Candles: Add cozy ambiance with lanterns filled with candles, fairy lights, or even mini pumpkins. You can even use solar lights.
- String Lights: Hang string lights around your porch railing or along the roofline to bring warmth to cool fall nights.
- Mason Jar Luminaries: Fill mason jars with small candles or fairy lights and line them along your porch steps or windowsills. See the photos below for some inspiration.
5. Plaid Patterns
- Plaid Blankets and Throws: Drape a plaid throw over porch seating for a classic autumn look. You can try adding plaid ribbons to your wreaths or on top of pumpkins.
- Plaid Pillows: Incorporate plaid or buffalo check pillows on porch swings, benches, or chairs to add a pop of pattern. See the photos below for some inspiration.
6. Mum Flowers
- Potted Mums: Use large pots of mums in vibrant fall colors like yellow, orange, or burgundy. Arrange them in clusters for impact. Also, try varied heights by using a few plant stands.
- Hanging Baskets: Add hanging baskets of mums to your porch for vertical color.
- Mum and Pumpkin Combos: Pair mums with pumpkins and gourds for a quintessential fall look. See the photos below for some inspiration.
7. Seasonal Doormats
- Fall-Themed Mats: Swap out your summer doormat for one with fall phrases like “Hello Fall,” “Harvest Greetings,” or a simple pumpkin design. If you are really crafty, you can paint your own Fall design.
- Layered Rugs: Pair a fall-themed doormat with a larger buffalo check or neutral-colored rug underneath for added dimension. See the photos below for some inspiration.
8. Rustic Crates and Barrels

- Neutral Textures: Use natural materials like wood, burlap, and straw for a minimalist fall look. Baskets work really nicely, too. You can find lots of cheap baskets at your local thrift stores. See the photos below for some inspiration.
10. Signs and Chalkboards
- Welcome Signs: Place a rustic wooden sign with fall greetings like “Welcome to Our Patch” or “Happy Harvest.”
