The daily task for today, Oct 23, 2023, is to begin to declutter any damaged air mattresses in your hall closets. Remember, we are focusing on just the hall closet area, so don’t declutter your whole house. We will cover each room separately.

10 Tips to Clean Out Your Linen Closet
- Start with a Plan:
Before diving into the linen closet, take a moment to create a plan. Determine your goals for the space, such as reducing clutter, improving accessibility, or simply making it look more appealing. A plan will keep you on track and prevent you from feeling overwhelmed.
- Empty the Closet:
The first step to a thorough linen closet cleaning is to remove all its contents. Lay everything out in a well-lit area so you can see what you’re working with. This also provides an opportunity to clean the closet’s shelves and walls.
- Sort and Categorize:
Once you have all your linen closet items out in the open, categorize them. Group similar items together, such as sheets, towels, bedding, and any other linens you store. This step helps you identify duplicates and items you no longer need.
- Declutter and Donate:
As you sort through your linens, it’s essential to be ruthless about decluttering. Ask yourself if you genuinely need and use each item. If you haven’t used a set of sheets or towels in a year or more, it’s probably time to let them go. Consider donating gently used linens to a local charity or shelter.

- Invest in Storage Solutions:
To keep your linen closet organized, invest in storage solutions such as bins, baskets, or clear containers. These help keep items neatly separated and make it easier to find what you need. Labeling containers is an extra step that can save you time and effort in the long run.
- Prioritize Accessibility:
Arrange items in your closet based on frequency of use. Store the most frequently used linens at eye level and within easy reach. Seasonal or occasional items can go on higher or lower shelves. This arrangement will help you access what you need quickly.
- Roll, Don’t Fold:
Folded linens can easily become disheveled when you remove one item, making the closet messy. A better approach is to roll linens, which not only saves space but also keeps everything looking tidy.
- Utilize Vertical Space:
Make the most of your closet’s vertical space by adding shelves, hooks, or an over-the-door organizer. These additions can maximize your storage capacity and help keep your closet clutter-free.
- Regular Maintenance:
Cleaning out your linen closet shouldn’t be a one-time task. Schedule regular maintenance sessions to ensure it stays organized. Twice a year, take a few minutes to check for clutter and make necessary adjustments.
- Be Mindful of New Additions:
When you acquire new linens or towels, be mindful of what you bring into the closet. Consider donating or recycling older items to make room for the new additions.

A well-organized linen closet can simplify your daily routine and reduce stress. By following these tips and maintaining your linen closet regularly, you’ll have a functional and appealing storage space that makes your linens readily available when you need them. So, roll up your sleeves, clear out the clutter, and transform your linen closet into a space that’s both practical and visually pleasing.
Steps to Take & Expert Ways to Clean Out Your Linen Closet
1.Only spend time on your specific daily task.
2.Do not get side-tracked or distracted.
3.Work within a time of day that you have the most energy and stamina. This is one of the most useful declutter motivation tips. Listen to your body and work at decluttering when you feel the most alert and energized.
4.Avoid thinking too long about whether to keep or discard an item. This is one specific way for How to Be Ruthless When Decluttering.
5.Avoid cleaning during your declutter. The goal is to purge the dead weight. Getting rid of the clutter is your priority. Cleaning can be accomplished later. Read on for more declutter motivation tips and my room specific deep clean checklist, though, as you will begin cleaning after your declutter.
High Impact Decluttering Tips to Clean Out Your Linen Closet
Supplies Needed:
1. boxes -preferably ones you can donate (Avoid plastic storage bins because you may be tempted to just store the items and not part with them.)
2. sturdy trash bags
3. marker/pen to label boxes
Decluttering Tip: Avoid using storage bins to declutter. Storage bins tend to tell your brain to “store” the items for later. That is just delaying decisions. If you aren’t getting rid of items when you declutter, you are not truly decluttering. This is why I recommend a trash bag, also. A trash bag tells your brain to “trash” the item.
Obviously, recycle if you have that option. The boxes you use should be ones you are willing to part with, so I recommend sturdy cardboard boxes. As to donations, there are many charities that will come pick up your items for you at your home.
I use one in particular where you can book an appointment for pick-up online. This is so convenient, as it saves you the hassle of hauling stuff away yourself. Scheduling that pick-up also motivates you to declutter by a certain date.
Expert Ways to Clean Out Your Linen Closet
1. Start by eliminating trash first- use a sturdy trash bag
2. Sort items by category if needed so you can see what you have
3.Get rid of items that don’t work or that work poorly, expired items, anything you don’t love, anything that you’ll never use again
4. Box up the donations and trash/recycle the rest
5.Select a charity to donate your items and schedule the pick-up if that is an option
