Whether you’re an avid baker or an occasional kitchen enthusiast, your stand mixer is likely one of your most beloved kitchen appliances. From whipping up fluffy meringues to kneading dough for freshly baked bread, your stand mixer is a versatile workhorse that makes kitchen tasks a breeze. However, to keep it running smoothly and hygienically, regular cleaning is essential. In this guide, we’ll walk you through the steps for how to clean your stand mixer to ensure it stays sparkling clean.
How to Clean Your Stand Mixer
Step 1: Unplug and Disassemble
Before you begin cleaning your stand mixer, always remember to unplug it from the power source to prevent any accidents. Once it’s safely unplugged, start by disassembling the removable parts. This typically includes the mixing bowl, beater, whisk, and dough hook. Check your mixer’s instruction manual if you’re unsure about how to remove specific parts.
Step 2: Hand Wash Removable Parts
Fill your sink with warm, soapy water. Submerge the removable parts of your stand mixer in the water and allow them to soak for a few minutes. Using a soft sponge or cloth, gently scrub each part to remove any food residue or grease. Pay extra attention to any crevices or hard-to-reach areas where food particles may be trapped.
Step 3: Rinse and Dry Thoroughly

After washing, rinse each part thoroughly under running water to remove any soap residue. Then, dry them completely with a clean dish towel or allow them to air dry. Ensure that no water remains trapped in the crevices to prevent mold or mildew growth.
Step 4: Clean the Mixer Body
Using a damp cloth or sponge, wipe down the exterior of the stand mixer, including the base and any buttons or switches. For stubborn stains or dried-on food, you can use a mild kitchen cleaner or a solution of equal parts vinegar and water. Avoid using abrasive cleaners or scouring pads, as they may damage the finish of your mixer.
Step 5: Clean the Attachment Hub
If your stand mixer has an attachment hub, don’t forget to clean it as well. Use a small brush, such as a toothbrush, to remove any food debris from the hub and the surrounding area. Wipe it down with a damp cloth, then dry it thoroughly.
Step 6: Reassemble and Store
Once all the parts are clean and dry, reassemble your stand mixer according to the manufacturer’s instructions. Make sure everything is securely in place before storing it away. If you have a dust cover for your mixer, consider using it to protect it from dust and debris when not in use.
Step 7: Regular Maintenance

To keep your stand mixer in top condition, it’s essential to perform regular maintenance tasks. This includes wiping down the exterior after each use, as well as periodically checking for any signs of wear or damage to the parts. If you notice any issues, such as strange noises or difficulty in operation, consult your mixer’s manual or contact the manufacturer for assistance.
With proper care and maintenance, your stand mixer can continue to be a reliable kitchen companion for years to come. By following these simple steps for cleaning and upkeep, you can ensure that your mixer stays sparkling clean and ready to tackle any baking or cooking task with ease.

The meat grinder from Kitchenaid is a great alternative for families, though it may not hold up in a professional kitchen or one that is bustling with chefs. The meat grinder can get especially grimy, so we’ll explore how to make cleaning easier.
Many people find that their grinder attachment rarely needs to be removed, unlike the other attachments. After grinding meats, many people find that passing a bit of bread through the mixer before washing and disassembling it may assist remove any chunks of food debris. The plastic construction makes the method even easier because it isn’t porous and allows meat along with other oils to wash off easily.
A few other common attachments are the bread hook and the wisk. I also use the standard beater attachment frequently. I prefer to clean my mixing bowl by hand. I have found that the metal parts are dishwasher safe and can be put in the dishwasher, but I usually wash mine by hand in warm, soapy water to avoid damaging them. This easily removes food residue if you wash it soon after use.

3.Start by wiping with a wet cloth using water and dish soap only. You can clean the clamping plate where food buildup and stuck on food tends to accumulate. You can use a small brush here. A paper towel soaked with degreaser can be used to remove stubborn grease and build up.
4.As needed, scour the dirtiest parts with a wet non-scratching scour pad or wet, soapy toothbrush. A nail brush works well to get in all the fine grooves.
