Letting go of items that no longer fit your aesthetic not only opens up physical space but also creates mental space for new ideas and inspirations. Here’s a guide to help you embark on a home decor decluttering journey.

Home Decor Declutter: Letting Go of Items That No Longer Fit Your Aesthetic

1. Define Your Current Aesthetic:

Before diving into your home decor’ declutter, take a moment to define your current aesthetic. Are you drawn to minimalist, bohemian, or industrial styles? Understanding your preferences will serve as a guiding light during the decluttering process. Consider creating a mood board or a Pinterest board to collect images that resonate with your desired aesthetic.

2. Take Inventory:

Walk through each room of your home and take inventory of your decor items. Identify pieces that no longer match your aesthetic or evoke the feelings you want in that space. This includes furniture, wall art, decorative items, and even textiles. Be honest with yourself about whether each item still holds value in your current vision for your home.

3. Embrace the KonMari Method:

Marie Kondo’s KonMari Method has taken the world by storm, and for good reason. The method encourages you to keep items that “spark joy” and discard those that don’t. Hold each item in your hands and ask yourself if it aligns with your current aesthetic and brings you joy. If not, it might be time to let it go.

4. Donate, Sell, or Repurpose:

Once you’ve identified the items you no longer want, consider your options for letting them go. Donating gently-used items to local charities not only helps those in need but also gives your items a second life. If the items are in good condition, you might also choose to sell them online or at a garage sale. Alternatively, get creative and repurpose items into something new that aligns with your current aesthetic.

5. Focus on Quality Over Quantity:

As you curate your space, prioritize quality over quantity. Invest in pieces that truly resonate with your aesthetic and will stand the test of time. This shift toward quality over quantity can lead to a more cohesive and intentional look in your home.

6. Regularly Evaluate and Refresh:

Home decor is a dynamic aspect of your living space, and your tastes may evolve over time. Make it a habit to regularly evaluate your decor and refresh as needed. This ongoing process will help you maintain a home that reflects your current style and brings you joy.

In conclusion, a home decor declutter can be a liberating and transformative experience. By letting go of items that no longer fit your aesthetic, you make room for new possibilities and a home that truly feels like yours. Embrace the process, enjoy the journey, and create a space that brings you joy every time you walk through the door.

Steps to Take for a Home Decor Declutter

1.Only spend time on your specific daily task.

2.Do not get side-tracked or distracted.

3.Work within a time of day that you have the most energy and stamina. This is one of the most useful declutter motivation tips. Listen to your body and work at decluttering when you feel the most alert and energized.

4.Avoid thinking too long about whether to keep or discard an item. This is one specific way for How to Be Ruthless When Decluttering.

5.Avoid cleaning during your declutter. The goal is to purge the dead weight. Getting rid of the clutter is your priority. Cleaning can be accomplished later. Read on for more declutter motivation tips and my room specific deep clean checklist, though, as you will begin cleaning after your declutter.

Tips for a Home Decor Declutter

Supplies Needed:

1. boxes -preferably ones you can donate (Avoid plastic storage bins because you may be tempted to just store the items and not part with them.)1. boxes -preferably ones you can donate (Avoid plastic storage bins because you may be tempted to just store the items and not part with them.)

2. sturdy trash bags

3. marker/pen to label boxes

Decluttering Tip: Avoid using storage bins to declutter. Storage bins tend to tell your brain to “store” the items for later. That is just delaying decisions. If you aren’t getting rid of items when you declutter, you are not truly decluttering. This is why I recommend a trash bag, also. A trash bag tells your brain to “trash” the item.

Obviously, recycle if you have that option. The boxes you use should be ones you are willing to part with, so I recommend sturdy cardboard boxes. As to donations, there are many charities that will come pick up your items for you at your home.

I use one in particular where you can book an appointment for pick-up online. This is so convenient, as it saves you the hassle of hauling stuff away yourself. Scheduling that pick-up also motivates you to declutter by a certain date.

Steps for a Home Decor Declutter

1. Start by eliminating trash first- use a sturdy trash bag

2. Sort items by category if needed so you can see what you have

3.Get rid of items that don’t work or that work poorly, expired items, anything you don’t love, anything that you’ll never use again

4. Box up the donations and trash/recycle the rest

5.Select a charity to donate your items and schedule the pick-up if that is an option
