10 Insane Hacks to Declutter Your Space in 5 Minutes – #7 Will Blow Your Mind!
- The Power of Three: Start with three items. Pick up the first three things you see that are out of place, and find a proper spot for them. Repeat this process until you’ve tackled the most noticeable clutter.
- The Five-Minute Frenzy: Set a timer for five minutes and challenge yourself to declutter as much as possible within that time frame. This time-bound approach prevents you from feeling overwhelmed and makes decluttering a quick and achievable task. The timer is one of my favorite hacks to declutter your space that I first heard from the fly lady. It really works!
- The Reverse Shopping Spree: Pretend you’re in a store and looking to buy items. As you go through your space, gather things you wouldn’t buy now and place them in a donation box. This hack not only declutters your space but also helps those in need.
- Declutter Hotspots First: Identify the hotspots in your living space – the areas that tend to accumulate clutter quickly. Focus on these areas first to create an immediate visual impact on the cleanliness of your space. Again, the fly lady is where I first learned of hot spots. Every home has them. Identify yours and start there.
- The 27-Thing Fling: Inspired by the fly lady, challenge yourself to find 27 things to throw away, donate, or sell. This specific number encourages you to be selective and deliberate in your decluttering process.
- Shoebox Time Capsule: Keep a shoebox handy and designate it as a time capsule. Any items found out of place during your quick decluttering sessions can be placed in the box. At the end of the week, assess the contents and decide their fate.
- Digital Declutter Blitz: Clutter isn’t limited to physical spaces. Why should this hack blow your mind? Because digital clutter often involves emails that you need to follow up on, digital to do lists you have made, digital reminders you have set, and so on. Whether you realize it or not, these undone task take up mental space and create mental clutter which leads to stress. Take five minutes to declutter your digital world. Organize your desktop, delete unnecessary files, and unsubscribe from newsletters you no longer read, follow up on emails, create one spot for your to do list, etc. The mental clarity gained from a tidy digital space is astounding.
- The Color Code Quickie: Sort items by color during your decluttering session. This visual categorization can make the process more enjoyable and efficient. Plus, it’s aesthetically pleasing to see items neatly grouped by color.
- Mindful Mail Sorting: Deal with that pile of mail in record time. Open each envelope and immediately recycle or file away the contents. Toss any junk mail without hesitation. This hack prevents paper clutter from piling up.
- The Power of One: Finally, always remember the power of one. If you can’t decide where an item belongs, challenge yourself to find just one spot for it. This prevents procrastination and keeps your space organized over the long term.

Decluttering doesn’t have to be an arduous task that consumes your entire day. With these 10 insane hacks, you can transform your space in just five minutes. Embrace the power of quick, intentional actions, and watch as your surroundings become a haven of order and tranquility. And remember, #7, the digital declutter blitz, is the game-changer that will truly blow your mind!
Hacks to Declutter Your Space
1.Only spend time on your specific daily task.
2.Do not get side-tracked or distracted.
3.Work within a time of day that you have the most energy and stamina. This is one of the most useful declutter motivation tips. Listen to your body and work at decluttering when you feel the most alert and energized.
4.Avoid thinking too long about whether to keep or discard an item. This is one specific way for How to Be Ruthless When Decluttering.
5.Avoid cleaning during your declutter. The goal is to purge the dead weight. Getting rid of the clutter is your priority. Cleaning can be accomplished later. Read on for more declutter motivation tips and my room specific deep clean checklist, though, as you will begin cleaning after your declutter.

Hacks to Declutter Your Space
Supplies Needed:
1. boxes -preferably ones you can donate (Avoid plastic storage bins because you may be tempted to just store the items and not part with them.)1. boxes -preferably ones you can donate (Avoid plastic storage bins because you may be tempted to just store the items and not part with them.)
2. sturdy trash bags
3. marker/pen to label boxes
Decluttering Tip: Avoid using storage bins to declutter. Storage bins tend to tell your brain to “store” the items for later. That is just delaying decisions. If you aren’t getting rid of items when you declutter, you are not truly decluttering. This is why I recommend a trash bag, also. A trash bag tells your brain to “trash” the item.
Obviously, recycle if you have that option. The boxes you use should be ones you are willing to part with, so I recommend sturdy cardboard boxes. As to donations, there are many charities that will come pick up your items for you at your home.
I use one in particular where you can book an appointment for pick-up online. This is so convenient, as it saves you the hassle of hauling stuff away yourself. Scheduling that pick-up also motivates you to declutter by a certain date.
Steps & Hacks to Declutter Your Space
1. Start by eliminating trash first- use a sturdy trash bag
2. Sort items by category if needed so you can see what you have
3.Get rid of items that don’t work or that work poorly, expired items, anything you don’t love, anything that you’ll never use again
4. Box up the donations and trash/recycle the rest
5.Select a charity to donate your items and schedule the pick-up if that is an option
