10 Easy Cleaning Hacks for Your Home Office
1. Declutter Regularly
The first step in my list of easy cleaning hacks for your home office is to declutter regularly. Get rid of unnecessary items, organize your paperwork, and keep only the essentials on your desk. A clutter-free environment can make a huge difference in your focus and efficiency. Getting rid of clutter also means you will have less to clean.

2. Use Desk Organizers
Invest in desk organizers to keep your pens, notebooks, and other office supplies in order. There are various stylish and functional organizers available that can help maximize your desk space and keep everything easily accessible.
You can even save money by sourcing your local thrift store for plastic organizers like the one seen below or pretty baskets that match your home. Don’t forget you can use spray paint to make everything suit your home office decor’ and color scheme.

3. Cable Management
Tangled cables not only look messy but can also be a tripping hazard. Use cable organizers or clips to keep your cables neatly arranged. You can even use a zip tie like the ones seen below. This simple hack will not only improve the aesthetics of your home office but also make it safer. Get creative and use what you already have on hand. A bread tie can do the trick.

4. DIY Cleaning Wipes
Create your own cleaning wipes by mixing water, vinegar, and a few drops of essential oil. Use these DIY wipes to clean your desk, keyboard, and other surfaces. They’re cost-effective, eco-friendly, and will leave your home office smelling fresh. I don’t use DIY cleaning wipes regularly, but I do use a simple disinfecting spray that includes dish soap, water, rubbing alcohol, and vinegar.
5. Invest in a Quality Trash Can
Having a good trash can is essential for keeping your home office clean. Opt for one with a lid to contain odors, and remember to empty it regularly. This small investment can make a big difference in maintaining a tidy workspace. Have a rule for yourself to not put any food or drinks in that trash can, and you’ll save the hassle of having to empty it as often. This will help eliminate odors, too.

6. Schedule Cleaning Breaks
Set aside time each week for dedicated cleaning breaks. I do this every Friday. Use this time to wipe down surfaces, organize your desk, and toss out any unnecessary clutter. Making cleaning a regular part of your routine will prevent messes from piling up. I also like to take this time to file away any stray papers.
Your filing system doesn’t have to be expensive or perfect either. It just needs to be something you can maintain that is well labeled and organized. I use this inexpensive file box below and it works well for me. If you don’t like the aesthetics of a file box or file cabinet, there are lots of great ideas on Pinterest for redecorating those file cabinets.

7. Freshen Up Your Space
Consider adding some indoor plants or using air purifiers to keep the air in your home office fresh. A clean and well-ventilated space can positively impact your mood and productivity. If you are considering an air purifier, I have one here that I have reviewed.
8. Digital Decluttering
Don’t forget to declutter your digital space as well. Organize your files, delete unnecessary documents, and clear out your email inbox. A tidy digital environment can be just as important as a clean physical one. I have a post here on digital decluttering that can provide you some tips.

9. Regular Dusting
Dust can accumulate quickly, especially if you have electronic devices in your home office. Make dusting a regular part of your cleaning routine to keep your workspace looking polished and professional. Here is a post on how to minimize dust in your home.

10. Personal Touches
Lastly, add a personal touch to your home office with decorations that inspire you. A clean and personalized workspace can boost your motivation and make working from home a more enjoyable experience. I love to use Pinterest for my inspiration. I look up photos that have a decor’ I want to mimic. Then, I save these and shop at second hand stores to find similar items.
I love scoring items at the thrift store that I can decorate with. I always look for beautiful baskets and picture frames. You can also find lots of organizing items like small containers that fit inside of drawers. If you need to store items, look no further than the baskets at your local thrift stores. Finding baskets with lids is also a plus for keeping clutter out of sight.
