Fall has a way of inviting us to slow down, cozy up, and prepare for the season ahead. But it’s also the perfect time to reset your home before the holidays and colder months roll in. Think of it as a seasonal “refresh”—a way to clear out what no longer serves you so your home feels warm, organized, and inviting. Here are 15 things you can declutter every Fall.

15 Things to Declutter Every Fall
1. Summer Clothing & Shoes
Pack away or donate what you didn’t wear this summer. If it sat untouched in your closet, chances are you won’t reach for it next year.
2. Worn-Out Outerwear
Check coats, jackets, hats, and scarves for rips or stains. Donate or recycle pieces that no longer serve you before colder weather sets in.
3. Expired Pantry Items

Soups, sauces, and baking supplies often get overlooked. Toss expired foods to make room for hearty fall staples.
4. Old Spices
Spices lose their flavor over time. A good rule: if you can’t smell the aroma when you open the jar, it’s time to replace it.
5. Mugs & Drinkware
Fall means more tea, cider, and hot cocoa—but you don’t need 25 mismatched mugs. Keep the ones you love, let go of the rest.
6. Beach & Pool Gear
Store away towels, goggles, and floaties. Donate what’s in good condition and recycle the worn-out items.
7. Paper Piles

Sort through mail, school papers, and magazines before the holiday rush brings more clutter. Scan or shred what you no longer need.
8. Cosmetics & Skincare
Check expiration dates on sunscreens, lotions, and summer beauty products. Toss anything that’s expired or irritating.
9. Blankets & Bedding
Rotate lighter summer blankets out and check heavier ones for wear. Donate extras to local shelters.
10. Kids’ Clothes & Toys
As kids grow, their wardrobes and toy bins can quickly overflow. Donate items they’ve outgrown to make space for upcoming holiday gifts.

11. Seasonal Décor
Go through last year’s fall or Halloween decorations. Keep only the ones you’ll actually use, and let go of broken or unloved pieces.
12. Shoes
Boots, sneakers, and sandals take a beating. Declutter pairs that are uncomfortable or worn beyond repair.
13. Linens & Towels
Rotate in cozy fall linens. If you have threadbare towels or sheets, repurpose them as cleaning rags or donate to animal shelters.

14. Tech & Electronics
Declutter old chargers, cables, and gadgets you no longer use. Recycle responsibly or donate working items.
15. The Garage (or Storage Spaces)
Before winter makes it harder to tackle, clear out unused sports equipment, gardening tools, or summer gear.
Decluttering in the fall is about creating a cozy, intentional home environment that supports you through the colder months. By letting go of what you don’t need, you’ll free up space, reduce stress, and make room for the things you truly love.
