Your entryway is the first thing your guests see when they come to your home, and it’s also the space where you and your family drop everything when you come in the door. As a result, it can quickly become cluttered and disorganized. But don’t worry – with a few simple tips and tricks, you can declutter your entryway and impress your guests. Here are 10 easy ways to declutter your entryway.

Welcome to the Year Long Thorough Declutter Series! Each day is dedicated to spending only 30 minutes decluttering your specific daily task. We will be working 5 days a week, so you can take 2 days to enjoy time with your loved ones.

Here are 10 easy ways to Declutter Your Entryway

  1. Assess your space: Take a good look at your entryway and make a note of what’s cluttering it up. Is it shoes, coats, bags, or something else?
  2. Set aside some time: Set aside a block of time to tackle your entryway. It doesn’t have to be all at once – you can break it up into smaller sessions if you prefer.
  3. Create zones: Create specific zones for different items, such as shoes, coats, bags, and umbrellas. This will help keep everything organized and easy to find.
  4. Use baskets and bins: Use baskets and bins to corral small items like gloves, hats, and scarves. This will keep them out of sight but still easily accessible.
  5. Install hooks: Install hooks on the walls or a coat rack to keep coats and jackets off the floor and chairs.
  6. Get a shoe rack: A shoe rack is a great way to keep shoes organized and out of the way. Plus, it will prevent dirt and mud from being tracked into your home.
  7. Keep it simple: The entryway should be a functional space, so keep the decor and accessories to a minimum.
  8. Purge regularly: Set a reminder to purge your entryway regularly. This will prevent clutter from accumulating and keep your space tidy.
  9. Use the back of the door: If you’re short on space, consider using the back of the door for additional storage. You can hang hooks, a shoe organizer, or a mirror.
  10. Don’t forget to clean: Keep your entryway clean by sweeping or vacuuming the floor and wiping down surfaces regularly.

Maybe your house is clean but cluttered. If so, you need to know a few declutter motivation tips before you start using the Step By Step Decluttering plan I use. Does a Cluttered House Cause Stress? Let’s look at a reputable, mental health site to answer that question. They have given us 8 ways mess leads to stress. According to Psychology Today:

Clutter can play a significant role in how we feel about our homes, our workplaces, and ourselves. Can a Messy House Affect Your Mood? You bet! How Does Clutter Affect Your Life? Messy homes and work spaces leave us feeling anxious, helpless, and overwhelmed. Yet, rarely is clutter recognized as a significant source of stress in our lives. (source)

  1. Clutter bombards our minds with excessive stimuli (visual, olfactory, tactile), causing our senses to work overtime on stimuli that aren’t necessary or important. (source)
  2. Clutter distracts us by drawing our attention away from what our focus should be on. (source)
  3. Clutter makes it more difficult to relax, both physically and mentally.(source)

How Does Clutter Affect Your Life? As you can already see, there are at least 8 ways we become negatively affected by clutter. Also, I though it might be thought provoking to look at some statistics on clutter.

  2. Most people wear 20% of their clothing 80% of the time. (source )
