Finding Overlooked Storage Spots in Your Home

1. Under the Bed Storage:

Don’t let that valuable space under your bed go to waste. Invest in storage bins or drawers that can easily slide under the bed. This is an excellent spot for storing off-season clothing, extra bedding, or even shoes. You do not have to have built in drawers beneath the bed to make this work. Just add bed risers and some plastic drawers will fit nicely here.

2. Overhead Garage Storage:

If you have a garage, consider utilizing the overhead space for storage. Install sturdy shelving or hanging racks to store items like sports equipment, holiday decorations, or rarely used tools. This can free up valuable floor space for your car or other activities.

If you haven’t noticed a pattern here yet, the key to finding overlooked storage spots in your home is to look upwards and think vertical options. Getting things off the floor is essential to creating more space in your home.

3. Behind-the-Door Organizers:

Doors are often overlooked when it comes to storage. Install hooks, racks, or over-the-door organizers to store things like shoes, scarves, or cleaning supplies. This is a simple yet effective way to maximize vertical storage.

4. Utilize Corner Shelves:

Corners are often wasted space, but they can be turned into valuable storage areas with corner shelves. These shelves are perfect for displaying decorative items or storing books and small items without taking up much floor space.

5. Hidden Storage Furniture:

Invest in furniture with hidden storage compartments. Ottomans, coffee tables, and bed frames with built-in storage are excellent choices. They provide a stylish way to keep items like blankets, magazines, or electronics out of sight.

6. Staircase Storage:

If you have stairs in your home, consider turning the space underneath into drawers or cabinets. This can be a fantastic spot for shoes, pet supplies, or even a mini-library.

7. Closet Door Storage:

Make the most of your closet doors by adding storage solutions. Hanging organizers or racks on the inside of closet doors can hold accessories, jewelry, or small items that tend to clutter your space.

8. Floating Shelves:

Install floating shelves on empty wall spaces. These shelves not only add a decorative touch but also provide an ideal spot for displaying items like books, photos, or plants.

9. Above Doorway Storage

An often overlooked space for storage in the home is the area right above the doorframe of each room. Obviously, this space should be for seldom used items. Consider installing shelves here. It can look aesthetically pleasing if you utilize some pretty storage baskets or attractive organizing bins.

In a child’s room you can use that above door storage shelf for displaying lightweight items such as stuffed animals or their childhood keepsakes. If you are a collector, use above door storage to display your prized collectibles.
