What To Do When Your House is Clean But Cluttered

  1. Assess the Situation: Before diving into what to do when your house is clean but cluttered, take a step back to evaluate the situation. Identify areas that consistently accumulate clutter and try to understand the reasons behind it. Are there items that don’t have designated spaces? Do you have trouble letting go of certain things? Understanding the root causes will guide your decluttering process.
  2. Define Clear Spaces: Another tip for what to do when your house is clean but cluttered, is to start defining your spaces. Establish specific areas for different activities and items in your home. Designate spaces for essentials like keys, mail, and daily-use items. By giving each item a designated home, you’ll not only prevent clutter but also make it easier to locate things when you need them.
  3. Declutter Regularly: A great tip for what to do when your house is clean but cluttered, is to make decluttering a regular part of your routine. Set aside time each week or month to assess and organize your living spaces. This can prevent the accumulation of unnecessary items and ensure that your clean house stays clutter-free over time. You can use my free declutter plan here by subscribing.
  4. Practice Mindful Purchasing: Be mindful of what you bring into your home. Before making a purchase, ask yourself if the item is truly necessary and if you have space for it. Avoid impulse buying, and focus on acquiring items that add value to your life rather than contributing to clutter.
  5. Utilize Storage Solutions: Invest in storage solutions that help you maximize space while keeping things organized. Storage bins, baskets, shelves, and drawer organizers can be invaluable in creating order within your living spaces. Consider vertical storage to make the most of your available square footage.
  6. Embrace the Minimalist Approach: Take a page from the minimalist playbook and adopt a less-is-more mentality. Keep only the items that serve a purpose or bring you joy. If you find yourself holding onto things out of sentimentality, consider taking photos to preserve memories without the physical clutter.
  7. Get the Whole Family Involved: Clutter is a collective challenge, and involving the whole family in the decluttering process can make it more manageable. Assign responsibilities and encourage everyone to contribute to maintaining a clutter-free environment.
  8. Donate or Sell Unneeded Items: If you discover items that no longer serve a purpose or bring you joy, consider donating or selling them. Not only does this help others in need, but it also clears space in your home.
