How to Free Up Space in Your Home Office
- Assess Your Current Setup: Take a good look at your home office and identify areas that are cluttered or underutilized. Understand the flow of your workspace and identify any items that are not necessary for your work.
- Declutter: Go through your office items and declutter ruthlessly. Remove anything that doesn’t serve a functional purpose or has been unused for a long time. Consider donating, recycling, or selling items you no longer need.
- Organize Your Workspace: Use organizational tools to maximize space efficiency. This might include shelves, drawers, filing cabinets, storage bins, and wall-mounted organizers. Categorize and store items according to their purpose or frequency of use.
- Digitize Documents: Minimize paper clutter by digitizing important documents. Scan and save them on your computer or cloud storage. This not only frees up physical space but also makes documents easily searchable and accessible.
- Go Vertical: Utilize vertical space by installing shelves or wall-mounted storage units. This can help keep items off your workspace while still making them easily accessible.
- Multi-Functional Furniture: Invest in furniture that serves multiple purposes. For instance, a desk with built-in drawers or a fold-out wall desk can save space. Similarly, a comfortable chair with storage can help reduce clutter.
- Cable Management: Keep cables and cords organized and out of sight. Use cable organizers or clips to prevent them from tangling and creating visual clutter.
- Use Hidden Storage: Furniture with hidden storage compartments, such as ottomans or coffee tables, can help you store items without taking up extra space.
- Regular Maintenance: Set aside time regularly to reevaluate your workspace and ensure that clutter doesn’t build up again. A few minutes each day or a dedicated cleaning session every week can make a big difference.
- Minimize Decor: While it’s nice to have some personal touches in your office, avoid overwhelming the space with excessive decorations. Choose a few meaningful items that contribute positively to the ambiance.
- Evaluate Necessities: Review the tools and equipment in your office. Are there any items you can borrow or share with other parts of your home? Streamlining your tools can save space and reduce redundancy.
- Remote Storage: If there are items you rarely use but can’t part with, consider storing them in a separate location, such as a closet, basement, or attic. This way, you can maintain a clutter-free workspace.

Remember that the key to freeing up space in your home office is thoughtful organization and regular maintenance. By following these steps, you can create a more efficient, productive, and visually appealing workspace.
A few guidelines to keep you on task:
1.Only spend time on your specific daily task.
2.Do not get side-tracked or distracted.
3.Work within a time of day that you have the most energy and stamina.

4.Avoid thinking too long about whether to keep or discard an item. Recruit help if you are stuck in the decision process.
5.Avoid cleaning during your declutter. Getting rid of the clutter is your priority. Cleaning can be accomplished later.
How to Free Up Space in Your Home Office: We are working in the home office this week. Your task today for today, February 13th is to: Declutter any appliance manuals for appliances you no longer own.
Bonus tip: Scan all your paper files all with your smart phone into my favorite “paperless” phone app – Evernote. Even if you plan to keep some important documents, this a great way to keep those items stored digitally in case of a fire or natural disaster.
