What is the meaning of decluttering? If you are wondering, you are in the right place. First, it would be helpful to define clutter and excess. Decluttering is getting rid of anything you no longer love or find useful. In our case, we are decluttering our homes.

Welcome to the Year Long Thorough Declutter Series! We will be starting decluttering specific tasks. Each day is dedicated to spending only 30 minutes decluttering your specific daily task. We will be working 5 days a week, so you can take 2 days to enjoy time with your loved ones.
What is the Meaning of Decluttering?
Decluttering means removing unnecessary or unwanted items from a space to make it more organized, clean, and functional. It involves sorting through belongings and deciding what to keep, donate, recycle, or throw away.
Key Aspects of Decluttering:
- Physical Space: Clearing out clutter from homes, offices, or rooms (e.g., closets, kitchens, garages).
- Mental Space (figuratively): Simplifying your life to reduce stress and improve focus and well-being.
- Digital Decluttering: Organizing or deleting files, emails, or apps to improve productivity.

Benefits of Decluttering:
- Creates a cleaner and more peaceful environment
- Reduces stress and anxiety
- Saves time and improves efficiency
- Makes room for things that truly matter
In short, decluttering helps you regain control over your space and often, your mindset.

What is the meaning of decluttering? Better yet, how do I declutter?

A few guidelines to keep you on task:
1.Only spend time on your specific daily task.
2.Do not get side-tracked or distracted.
3.Work within a time of day that you have the most energy and stamina.
4.Avoid thinking too long about whether to keep or discard an item. Recruit help if you are stuck in the decision process.
5.Avoid cleaning during your declutter. Getting rid of the clutter is your priority. Cleaning can be accomplished later.
We are working in the home office this week. Your task today for today, February 17th is to: Declutter any school supplies/office supplies.

Note: According to the IRS, you should maintain and keep the last seven years of your tax records.
Bonus tip: Scan all your paper files all with your smart phone into my favorite “paperless” phone app – Evernote. Even if you plan to keep some important documents, this a great way to keep those items stored digitally in case of a fire or natural disaster.
