Super glue is a handy tool, unless it gets onto something you never intended it to touch. When someone spills a super adhesive, what comes next is a much stickier situation. We wish there was good news for removing it perfectly, but the bad news is, there’s no great solution when it comes to super glue and painted surfaces.

The fundamental ingredient in removers for crazy adhesives and super adhesives is acetone. This compound can be found in nail polish remover, which is very popular for eliminating small drips and drabs around the house. It works well, so long as they’re on skin, glass, wood, and surfaces that aren’t going to be stained or leached of their color.
Acetone can even be used on a finished table or cupboard top, but chances are, it will damage the shiny finish. You can try an acetone based nail polish remover. It should always be tested on a hidden area first. There is really no way to avoid removing paint if you apply the acetone to a painted surface.
Here are some tips for removing super glue from various surfaces:

- Warm, Soapy Water: Soak the glued area in warm, soapy water for a few minutes. This can help soften the glue and make it easier to peel or scrape off.
- Acetone: Acetone, commonly found in nail polish remover, is effective at breaking down super glue. Apply a small amount of acetone to a cotton ball or swab and gently rub it onto the glued area. Be sure to test a small, inconspicuous area first to ensure it doesn’t damage the surface.
- Isopropyl Alcohol: Similar to acetone, isopropyl alcohol can dissolve super glue. Apply it to the affected area and let it sit for a few minutes before attempting to remove the glue.
- Petroleum Jelly: Apply petroleum jelly to the glued area and let it sit for a few hours. This can help loosen the glue, making it easier to remove.
- Olive Oil or Cooking Oil: These oils can also help soften super glue. Apply a generous amount to the glued area and let it sit for a while before attempting to remove the glue.
- Commercial Super Glue Remover: There are commercial products specifically designed to remove super glue from surfaces. Follow the instructions on the product carefully for best results.
- Scraping or Peeling: Once the glue has softened, gently scrape or peel it off using a plastic scraper or your fingernail. Be careful not to damage the surface underneath.
Remember to use caution when using chemicals such as acetone or isopropyl alcohol, and always test them in a small, inconspicuous area first to ensure they don’t damage the surface you’re working on. Additionally, make sure to work in a well-ventilated area and avoid getting any chemicals on your skin or eyes.

To remove super glue from glass, metal, or wood, soak a cotton ball in acetone and apply to the glass surface. Remember to test it on an inconspicuous area first, because you are risking destroying the finish. Avoid using acetone on any painted surface and any type of fabric, as you may permanently discolor it.
One way you may try to safely remove super glue from your skin is to utilize a composite of petroleum rich hand cream along with a liquid or powdered soap, such as dishwasher detergent. Soak the area with a hot, wet washcloth.
Next, take a cloth, dip it into the dry soap, and apply it by rubbing it onto the adhesive. A combination of friction and the sliding of the petroleum ingredients into soap should ease adhesive off skin painlessly.
