how to clean your air vents

Wondering how to clean your air vents? Let’s tackle that task today. Whether you rent or own your home, there are a few maintenance tasks required to keep your home running smoothly. One of these tasks is changing out your air filters monthly. Changing these out helps your central heating and air unit to perform as it should. It also creates cleaner air for you and your family to breath. However, most of us skip an important step.

When changing out these air filters, you will benefit greatly from cleaning your air vents. These tend to collect lots of dust and dirt. So, if you are just changing out your filters without cleaning these, you are still breathing in dust and dirt.

How to Clean your Air Vents:

Cleaning your air vents is fairly easy. You’ll need a vacuum cleaner with attachments to get the job done. To clean your air vents, use your vacuum attachments to brush and vacuum the dirt away. If the vents are really grimy, there are two other deep cleaning options.

First, if the vent is small enough to wash indoors, you can take it to your shower or bathtub for a good scrub. Use water and dish detergent to clean your air vent.   A good scrub brush can be helpful to really get into the creases.

Second, cleaning the air vents can be accomplished outdoors, if you prefer less mess indoors. You can use dish detergent and a water hose to wash them clean.

For smaller floor and ceiling vents, you can wash these by hand in the kitchen sink with some dish detergent. If you prefer, these smaller vents can usually be safely run through the dishwasher for a deeper clean.
