Welcome to the Year Long Thorough Declutter Series! We will be starting in the kitchen this month. Each day we Declutter a Room in 30 minutes by decluttering your specific daily task. We will be working 5 days a week, so you can take 2 days to enjoy time with your loved ones.

Here are some tips on how to declutter a room in 30 minutes a day.
- Start with a plan
Before you begin decluttering, take a few minutes to plan your approach. Decide which room you want to tackle first and create a list of the items you want to keep, donate, or throw away. Having a plan in place will help you stay focused and motivated.
- Set a timer
Set a timer for 30 minutes and work on decluttering for that amount of time. When the timer goes off, take a break or move on to another task. Breaking up your decluttering sessions into shorter increments will help you avoid burnout and keep you from getting overwhelmed.
- Sort your items
As you work on decluttering, sort your items into three piles: keep, donate, or throw away. Be honest with yourself about what you really need and use. If you haven’t used an item in over a year, it’s probably time to let it go.
- Use storage solutions
Invest in storage solutions that will help you keep your space organized. Consider using baskets, bins, or shelves to keep your items in order. Use labels to identify the contents of each container, so you can easily find what you need.
- Get rid of clutter
Finally, make sure you get rid of the clutter you’ve accumulated. Donate items that are still in good condition to charity, or sell them online. Recycle or dispose of items that can’t be reused. Removing clutter from your home will create more space and make your rooms feel larger and more inviting.

Today, we’ll lay out the solutions for the steps to declutter using my tips on Why and How to Declutter a House. Plus, we’ll look at a few ways to answer the concern of How Clutter Affects You and what you can do about it.

A few guidelines to keep you on task:
1.Only spend time on your specific daily task.
2.Do not get side-tracked or distracted.
3.Work within a time of day that you have the most energy and stamina.
4.Avoid thinking too long about whether to keep or discard an item. Recruit help if you are stuck in the decision process.
5.Avoid cleaning during your declutter. Getting rid of the clutter is your priority. Cleaning can be accomplished later.
Your task today for August 21st is to: Declutter your small appliances.
Helpful Tips:
- Declutter any small appliances you never use.
- Declutter anything broken beyond repair.
- Get rid of anything that doesn’t have all the parts that make it useful.

A Quick Recap for the Task for yesterday, August 20th: The August 20th task was to declutter your spices.
My spices weren’t too cluttered, but I did have a few that had expired, so I was able to declutter those. Then, I just sorted and organized them by height to make them look nicer.
How are you enjoying this series? I hope it has been helpful and encouraging for you. I am right here with you to complete those daily tasks and move toward the finish line slowly.
Remember, slow and daily habits are the most lasting. If you attempt to make a change too quickly or too dramatically, you’ll likely lose stamina and burn out, returning to your old ways.
But, this isn’t you! You are going to make great progress, slowly and steadily. You are going to make lasting changes and form new habits that you’ll keep.
If you feel like the process is too minimal, take some photos of your own “before and after” results. This will keep you motivated to continue. If you are willing, comment and share your results with the group. We’ll continue to cheer you on and send you those “virtual high-fives.”
