The entryway of your home is the first thing guests see when they visit, but it’s also the place where you and your family come and go every day. It’s easy for this space to become cluttered and disorganized, but with a few simple steps, you can declutter your home’s entryway and create more room for living.

Maximize Your Space: How to Declutter Your Home's Entryway and Create More Room for Living

Welcome to the Year Long Thorough Declutter Series!  Each day is dedicated to spending only 30 minutes decluttering your specific daily task. We will be working 5 days a week, so you can take 2 days to enjoy time with your loved ones. Now, let’s look at how to declutter your home’s entryway and maximize space.

How to Declutter Your Home’s Entryway

Step 1: Assess Your Entryway

The first step in decluttering your entryway is to take a good look at what you have. Make note of anything that doesn’t belong in the entryway, such as shoes that should be in the closet or mail that should be in the office. Once you’ve identified these items, move them to their proper places.

Step 2: Sort Your Items

Next, sort the items that belong in the entryway into categories. You might have a category for shoes, one for coats, and one for bags, for example. This will help you see how many items you have in each category and identify any duplicates or similar items that you can consolidate.

Step 3: Purge and Consolidate

Now that you’ve sorted your items, it’s time to purge and consolidate. Start by getting rid of anything that is broken or that you no longer use. Then, look for duplicates or similar items and choose your favorite to keep. Consolidating your items into one or two of each type can help you simplify your entryway and save space.

Step 4: Organize Your Entryway

The final step in decluttering your entryway is to organize your items. Consider investing in a shoe rack or a coat rack to keep your items neat and tidy. Use baskets or bins to corral smaller items, such as keys or sunglasses. And don’t forget to label each category so that you can easily find what you need.

Maximize Your Space: How to Declutter Your Home’s Entryway and Create More Room for Living

  1. Use Vertical Space: Consider adding shelving or a wall-mounted organizer to keep items off the floor and create more storage space. You can use hooks or hanging baskets to store items like hats, scarves, and gloves.
  2. Clear the Clutter: Remove any unnecessary items from your entryway, such as shoes, coats, or bags that you no longer use. Donate or sell items that are in good condition, and discard items that are broken or no longer usable.
  3. Create a Landing Zone: Designate a specific area for items that you use on a daily basis, such as keys, wallets, and phones. This will help you keep these items organized and easily accessible.
  4. Optimize Storage: Consider using storage solutions that can maximize your space, such as an over-the-door shoe organizer or a storage bench that doubles as seating.
  5. Choose Multifunctional Furniture: Look for furniture that serves multiple purposes, such as a console table with drawers or a coat rack with a built-in umbrella stand.
  6. Keep it Light: Choose light-colored paint or wallpaper to help brighten up the space and make it feel larger. If possible, add a mirror to create the illusion of more space.
  7. Embrace Minimalism: When it comes to decorating your entryway, less is often more. Opt for a few carefully chosen pieces that serve a purpose and create a cohesive look.

By implementing these tips, you can maximize space in your home entry and create a more organized and functional space.

Maximize Your Space: How to Declutter Your Home's Entryway and Create More Room for Living

Maybe your house is clean but cluttered. If so, you need to know a few Declutter Tips and Ideas before you start using the Step By Step Decluttering plan I use. Does a Cluttered House Cause Stress?
