HOW TO PLAN A YEAR’S WORTH OF BLOG POSTS IN ONE AFTERNOON: As I was thinking of my blogging efforts, it occurred to me that I’ve been using shortcuts as often as possible to lengthen and better my material. I’m talking about using multiple different types of series. This is one very effective way of how to plan a year’s worth of blog posts in one afternoon. After all, it sounds like a tall order, right?

Check out my Blogging category above in the drop down menu devoted to learning how to blog. Today, we’ll unveil how to plan a year’s worth of blog posts in one afternoon.

Well, let’s break it down into some actionable steps to show you that it is possible. Let’s get started.

HOW TO PLAN A YEAR'S WORTH OF BLOG POSTS IN ONE AFTERNOON

HOW TO PLAN A YEAR’S WORTH OF BLOG POSTS IN ONE AFTERNOON

Step 1: First, you need to brainstorm your ideas and come up with a post that you can use in a series. It needs to be a big enough idea that you do not exhaust the material in a short time.

For example, I blog about cleaning, organizing, and decluttering. The process of decluttering is really a lifelong process for most of us. Also, decluttering is overwhelming for many. Because of this, I created a series that is a year long and involves daily tasks to complete one huge project. By doing that, it feels less overwhelming and more within reach.

Think of your industry. Is it health or fitness? Consider doing a year long challenge and setting daily or weekly goals. Maybe you blog about recipes. If so, you can introduce a different series each week or month, such as gluten-free recipes or low carb recipes.

Maybe your niche involves tech. If that is your niche, you might suggest how someone can advance in the use of a specific type of technology or program. Then, you provide daily actionable lessons to teach your readers how to do so. (If you need to sign up for a new blog, try bluehost for the cheapest options.)

Step 2: Know your audience and solve a common problem they have.

After you have brainstormed your ideas, now we want to narrow these ideas down to your best one. If you are involved in social media, now is the time to start asking your readers what problems they have, so you can provide a solution.

You can do this by simply using your social media to post a question. If you are a brand new blogger and your audience is small, you can browse other websites in your niche to get ideas from readers that mimic yours. Find out what common themes and problems you see repeatedly.

Step 3: Write out a monthly plan. Break that down into a weekly plan. Break that down into a daily plan (5 days a week is sufficient). This is how you plan a year’s worth of blog posts in one afternoon. (If you need to sign up for a new blog, try bluehost for the cheapest options.)

Once you have your final great idea and decide on your main theme, you will need to organize it. I personally have a printed list for each month with the daily tasks broken down into specific days. So, start with 12 months of mini-themes if this helps.

For example, let’s say you blog about health and fitness. Decide what your end goal is going to be and then work backwards. Do you want your readers to adopt a new healthy habit once a week? If so, decide on a general monthly goal, such as exercise. Then, break down that month into the daily steps you want to encourage your readers to implement to create this new habit.

Step 4: Print out your plan and start assigning calendar days to your blog posts you plan to write.

A typed plan with specific dates will give you very clear goals and define the direction you are headed. This step is important, so don’t neglect this.

This preparation will be the motivator that keeps you on task each time you sit down to blog. You need this, and your readers need to see this to confirm that you are consistent.

Step 5: Market, advertise, and make your new blog series known!

Create multiple pins to post to Pinterest advertising your upcoming series. You need to generate interest and then promote, promote, promote!

Side note: I personally like to use Canva to create my Pinterest pins. I have a tutorial on this blog if you’re interested in using Canva to make your social media posts. They are free, and easy to use. Follow my tutorial to get started.

Advertise your new series on your personal social media pages and also on any group pages (if the group allows it). Share your start date and your end goal, so your readers have a clear direction of where you are leading them.
